Job Purpose

The primary responsibility of this role will be to deliver secure, reliable, and maintainable software across the C#/.NET back-end and SQL data layer, while contributing to front-end integration where required.

Provide best-quality software using appropriate, up-to-date technologies aligned with company standards. Maintain a high level of code quality and performance; support the integration of new technologies where there is clear business value. Assist the Software Development Manager/Team Lead with planning, scheduling, and resource allocation to ensure project deadlines are met.

Provide effective support to After-Sales and product/project teams.

Duties and Responsibilities

Software Engineering (C#/.NET & APIs)

  • Analyse, design, implement, and maintain applications and services in C# on .NET.
  • Design and build RESTful APIs including authentication/authorisation, versioning, pagination, error modelling, and performance considerations.
  • Produce and maintain APIs while adhering to backwards-compatibility and deprecation policies.
  • Follow SOLID principles, dependency injection, async programming, and clean solution structuring.

Database Engineering (SQL Server).

  • Design and maintain schemas, tables, indexes, views, stored procedures, and ETL processes in Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Diagnose and tune performance using execution plans, statistics, and SARGable patterns; ensure transactional correctness and data integrity.

Quality, Testing & Standards.

  • Write and maintain unit, integration, and other test approaches to agreed coverage thresholds.
  • Perform and participate in code reviews; follow the company’s coding standards and secure-by-design practices.
  • Ensure complete and proper documentation of programme/system changes and maintain version control in accordance with company procedures.

DevOps & Delivery.

  • Use Git and Azure DevOps for branching, pull requests, CI/CD pipelines, environment configuration, and releases/rollbacks.
  • Contribute to observability (logging, metrics, tracing) and support incident response/post-mortems.
  • Release and implement new or modified software internally and at clients in line with company procedures.

Security, Privacy & Compliance.

  • Apply secure coding practices, protect secrets/credentials appropriately, and operate on least-privilege principles.
  • Handle personal data in accordance with company policy and GDPR; remediate vulnerabilities promptly.

Legacy modernisation.

Refactor and migrate legacy components (e.g., VB/Clarion) to modern .NET services using incremental “strangler” approaches and characterisation tests.

ERP Domain & product understanding.

  • Develop a working understanding of the EYESEL Business Suite modules and their integrations.
  • Produce lightweight artefacts (diagrams, ADRs, checklists) to document domain knowledge and support delivery.

Collaboration & Communication.

  • Collaborate effectively with Architecture, front-end/web design, Product, QA, Support, and other stakeholders.
  • Provide clear estimates, status updates, and risk/issue escalations; meet agreed deadlines.
  • Mentor and support colleagues; contribute to knowledge sharing through reviews, demos, and documentation.
  • Ensure the team remains proactive in pursuing practical, value-adding solutions and innovation within our technology practice.
  • Work as part of a shared pool of developers, with allocation varying by project/Client needs, skills fit, priority, and availability.
  • Report progress and status to superiors and escalate blockers promptly for resolution.
  • Communicate with client users as required by the nature and type of issue.

Documentation.

Maintain up-to-date technical documentation (readmes, runbooks, API specs, database change logs) for all owned components.

Support & Operations.

Address reported bugs efficiently and provide support for modules developed by the team, including reasonable out-of-hours assistance if agreed.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience.

  • A first degree in software development.
  • Must be well organised and proactive.
  • Demonstrate excellent knowledge of SQL.
  • Very good working knowledge of either .NET platform using C#, WPF, API and WCF or Clarion IDE.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken Business English.
  • Other languages would be considered an asset.  
  • Other on-the-job training would be provided as and when required. Such training would be discussed during the incumbent’s performance appraisal. Such training may be carried out internally, locally, or overseas.

  • We are flexible and can offer fully remote or hybrid work arrangements subject to the following conditions.

A) If you are a TCN/EU Citizen already based in Malta, then you must have worked in Malta for at least 2 years in a similar position and hold a valid working permit and passport.

B) If you are a TCN/EU Citizen not based in Malta, then you will be offered to work for us ONLY in a fully remote manner. No relocation is available.
